Goal Setting - Clearing Up The Clutter In Your Life

Whatever activity you are participating in should have a purpose. You should not be "wasting time". The purpose of this activity could be to increase your income, it could be to achieve better grades, it could simply be increasing your knowledge of your hobby, or it could be simply to relax yourself and have a little fun. But whatever activity you are doing you should have a purpose for doing it. This is in essence setting a goal for every activity you participate in. You may seem to think doing something like this is pointless and much too detailed oriented but this is not the case. Everything that you deem to be worth your time doing, should be important enough to have a goal to coincide with it.

Now even though having a purpose for everything you do and incorporating goal-setting into your life is important, you shouldn't let this consume your life and make you into a robotic person who brainstorms furiously for a seven o'clock date with your significant other. This simply doesn't have to be the case. Effective goal setting will make you more organized and help you achieve what you want out of life. When you are writing an email to an associate at work you should attach a goal to that activity however trivial it may seem. This goal can be anything from making him feel at ease about something to convincing him to take an action that is best for the company. Quite simply if you have no goal for this activity and you can't come up with one, then there is no point in completing this task. Effective goal setting will keep you on task make you more productive and make your life less stressful.

In addition to the short term goals that should associate with each individual activity you should also have a long term goal. This is the second step in good goal setting that will give your life much more focus. After you associate each activity with a short term goal, you will clean up on activities that you complete in your life that have no value. With this extra time, you will be able to focus more on long term goals, that otherwise you would have had no time for because of the fact that you are simply stuck in the short term. Have you ever planned to do something fairly important down the road (maybe a fairly big project) but just never had the time get job done. This could be anything from cleaning out your garage to trying out ideas for a new home business. If you clean out your day to day commitments you will have fewer activities that simply waste time and will be able to spend the time to think about these long term projects.

Making you more organized and giving your life focus will be hard work. It's like everything else; it takes time, effort and some frustration. But goal setting is very important and it is most definitely worth the effort to institute into your life. The use of long term goals and short term goal will make you more efficient and will make it easier to accomplish what you want out of life.
