Congratulations! Youve just spent the entire weekend organizing your home office and it looks fabulous. So now that the hard part is over, how do you keep the clutter under control? Use the Can This is one of the easiest ways to stay organized. For every paper you save, see if there is one you can toss. Remember the Garbage can is your friend. Spiral Notebook If you have a habit of writing notes on little pieces of paper only to lose them an hour later try using a spiral notebook. They are thin, fairly cheap and can hold several weeks or months worth of notes. No paper piles! Schedule 10 minutes a day to go through your papers. Toss anything you dont need, file anything you do. Scheduled cleanings Whether its weekly, monthly or annually you need to schedule routine cleanings to get rid of outdated papers, business cards, notes and miscellaneous items. Refill paper clips, staples, pens and pencils and make a list of what you are low on. Dont forget the computer Routinely clean out folders, files and emails. Save important information to disk, CD or other backup device, delete old outdated junk and donate or toss old software. Easy access - Constantly having to retrieve items from across the room is huge time waster. Keep the items you use regularly in a drawer or container near you for easy access. File it If you can afford to buy a filing cabinet or other filing system, do it. Having all your files in one place will save you countless hours later. Junk Mail Sort and toss junk mail at the post office so you arent tempted to leave it lying around. Basket or box Have a basket or box next to your office door for items that dont belong in there. As you leave, take the items with you so they can be put in their proper places. Reward Yourself Dont forget to reward yourself for a job well done. By staying organized you will have less stress, be more productive and will find you have extra time for the more important things in life. |
