Ill never forget how Reverend Robert Schuller justified building the gorgeous Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. He said: Beauty is inspiring! Hes right, of course. It makes sense to surround ourselves with beautiful things, because they put us in touch with our potential as human beings, reminding us of what we can do, achieve, when were at our best. For this reason, I suggest you carry a little beauty with you wherever you go, in the form of an art calendar or organizer. Ive been doing this for years, and I cant tell you how wonderful these items are. Right now, Im using a spiral bound, 6 X 9 calendar published by Taschen Diary, that I purchased at the Norton Simon Museum, in Pasadena, California. The art in this volume is from Vincent Van Gogh, and it contains some of his most beautiful and famous works, including his vase with irises and starry night compositions. Of course, I put my appointments in the lined portions of the book that are set across from each plate. And I find that all of this beauty adds a certain calmness to my mood as I go from place to place or call to call. When Im having lunch, Ill turn to a particularly beautiful painting, and just gaze into it. Believe me, this view is often much better than anything I can look at in a restaurant. These calendars also serve as keepsakes, as well as business or social records, and youll be proud to line your bookshelves with them. |
