Causes and Effects of Acne

There are many myths as to the causes and effects of acne. The most popularly held is that it can be caused by not washing or by having dirty skin. Many health professionals disagree with this as a primary cause. Although having clean skin is helpful and maybe even more so when you have acne, it is not generally believed that washing, or not washing frequently enough has any great effect on your likelihood of suffering from acne.

Another of the popular beliefs on the causes and effects of acne is that eating badly and consuming too much fat can encourage it. Although not thought to be a direct cause good food will benefit your skin and eating well can make a positive contribution to your health and well being.

Acne is mainly brought about by the sebaceous glands. Most of the causes and effects of acne are related to these glands being too active. They produce an oily secretion for the skin, but their normal levels of activity can be affected by the hormone testosterone. Although it is normally though of as a male hormone testosterone is in fact present in women as well.

It can cause an excess of production by the sebaceous glands and this, in turn, can lead to the pores of the skin becoming blocked and possibly infected. This can lead, in some people, to acne and all its distressing symptoms. Spots on the face are the most common and obvious signs that someone is suffering from acne.

If left untreated acne can also result in the inflammation of the spots and it is possible for cysts to form under the skin. If they burst they can also cause infection in the area around the cyst. This can lead to the scars that some suffers of acne are prone to.

But although it can be a very distressing condition there it no need to panic. There are many treatments available to help you combat the causes and effects of acne and the best person to consult is your local doctor or skin care specialist. There are many doctors that specialize in this area and your local physician should be able to help you with a recommendation. With the right treatment the symptoms can be reduced greatly and the possibility of scarring lessened. So seek the right advice and you may be on the way to improving your acne soon.
