There is something about women and their uncanny knack to remember important dates. A woman almost never forget dates even if they are as insignificant as the birthdays of their boyfriends' parents but when it comes to men, they become geeks, if they remember significant dates. Not only does it help to make each other feel special, but also cements the bond of love that you share. "My boyfriend and I always celebrate the 25th of every month with great zeal and spirit, because it was on that date in January that we both met. It's special and we always reminisce on how we fell so deeply in love. Invariably there is also a present waiting for me. Not only the 25th of every month, we try and remember important birthdays of his and my family members. It's just another way of reinforcing that you care," says Andrea Scott, a consultant.

For many, a sharp memory that retains important dates can also be a blessing in disguise. "Last year I very conveniently forgot my mom's birthday but somehow my husband remembered and thank God for it. Because I would have felt eternally guilty had it not been for his ability to remember dates. I guess it's a part and parcel of being in love that you remember your partner's family members' birthdays," says Ronit Jones, a doctor.

So, how and why do dates matter when you are together? For many people, dates have absolutely no significance. The day you met the love of your life was just another day in the calendar. "It has always intrigued me why my wife threw big fits when I forgot our anniversary and even her birthday. It took me such an effort to remember those dates amidst my hectic schedule. Sometimes even the alarms would fail to go off on time and there I would be, in the middle of a huge storm at home. I guess it adds to life's pressure - remembering dates. Why can't life be simpler?" says Roger Benjamin, a businessman.
