Medical-Records: What Do Yours Say?

Medical-records provide a wealth of information on various topics for individuals. You will find that the most complete of medical-records may not be all that complete at all. In many cases, it is difficult to see that there are other occurrences in a person's life so it is important to make sure that your medical-records are as up to date as possible in order to have good records on hand for when you can not provide the necessary information.

You will find a number of things on your medical records. They will contain basics about who you are and what you look like. They will then go into detail about any known medical treatment that you have received. You will find that many times the information will be different from one doctor to the next especially if you have changed doctors frequently. This information isn't always passed from one doctor to the next unfortunately.

One thing that is quite important about medical-records is that of those that are made for children. It is important that patients receive the best in information here because of immunization records as well as any concerns when the child was born up until this time. This information should always be passed from doctor to doctor and in most cases the doctors will ask you to sign off on this transfer of information.

One of the problems with medical-records is that they tend to be paper. This can be tiresome to update and often does not follow the patient well enough. There are some strides being made to help this though. For example, much of the medical-records are now being put on computers in databases that doctors share. Also, you will find that many of the doctors are using electronic means for recognizing patients and conditions. It is your responsibility, as the patient, to make sure that medical-records are passed from place to place throughout your care.
