Lose a Bit-- it Won't Take Very Much!

In the United States we have become very fat. Our terrible diets have created our lard filled tummies. Although not everyone in the country is obese, most of us could probably afford to lose some weight.

It really is a great idea to drop some pounds. Even a small decrease in overall body fat can work wonders for your overall health. The truth of the matter is that a lot of us are disillusioned by society's expectations. It's obvious that we can never become a size-two lady or a muscle-bound gentleman like we see featured on the checkstand magazines. But, you may think, dieting is a lot of work and you are just never going to be able to maintain a diet over a long period of time. However, you can alter your lifestyle and your diet to get started on the track to good health.

It isn't probable that we will ever lose as much weight as we want. Exercise and diet notwithstanding, our imagined target weight is still a long way off.

Lucky for us, an improvement in overall health isn't the same as looking like a centerfold. You can get the health results you want through slight lifestyle changes. If you have too much fat on your bones, you will probably feel tired a lot of the time. You will never be able to perform at the level your body really should. Of course, you can see how this can really hurt your quality of life!

If you consider the way you live your life now, you can probably come up with some fairly easy changes you can make to get more exercise and change your diet.

Start with your activities in the morning. As you rise and shine, do you climb directly into the warm shower or do you give your limbs a few minutes to strech? You'll be more active all day if you give your blood a chance to circulate.

If you are usually a bacon and pancakes person for breakfast, maybe you should try some nutritious cereal and a glass of juice instead. Try this other meal three days next week and see what a change it makes in your day.

Getting your body active in the morning is a great way to bounce into work feeling extremely energized. Perhaps you should attempt to walk to work if you live close enough. If not, you can either take a bike several days a week or perhaps park your car a few blocks away. Walking clears your mind and helps you organize your thoughts. Plus your body loves the extra circulation.

A great change in your life that is completely easy to make is to consume more water. If you drink eight glasses of eight ounces of water per day, you can keep your brain from tricking you into thinking you need food when you are really just thirsty.

To stave off hunger at inopportune moments, make sure you always have fruits like plums or pears or vegetables like carrots or tomatoes nearby. You can always get your fruit and vegetable consumption done as a side item on your plate. Side salads are tasty, filling, and great for you, especially if you use a tasty low-fat dressing.

The amount of times you eat every day is just as important as the portions of your meals. Eating several small meals per day is a sure way to boost your metabolism and keep you using fat at a regular rate. If you don't kick your metabolism into gear, your body will not be energized. On top of that, you will turn whatever food you do eat into fat, rather than burning the calories you consume.

While it's sometimes okay to splurge, it's never a good idea to fill your body with only fried or sugar-filled meals. These foods will fill up your belly and you won't want to eat any healthy food, such as salads or turkey sandwiches. On top of that, eating these foods gives you empty calories which in turn produce weight gain. Don't eat foods that don't improve your health. If you sometimes treat yourself, the treat will be that much more delicious.

Eating a healthy diet and staying active are the two keys to a long life and a healthy body. This does not require a total lifestyle revision. Taking small steps in each of these areas is a great way to begin getting healthy!
