Quit Smoking Naturally - Kick Your Unhealthy Habit

Smoking has suffered the slings of ridicule and the romanticizing of the movies. You can almost tell when a movie was made by how many people in the movie smoke and whether the smokers are the good guys or the bad guys. But in real life, smoking has always been the bad guy, long recognized as an unhealthy habit. So how can you quit smoking naturally?

The downsides to smoking are numerous. They include:

Higher risk of cancer
Higher risk of emphysema
Discoloration of teeth
Desensitization of taste and smell
Effects on blood pressure
Heart and lung disease

Smoking brings about an increase in carbon monoxide and a decrease of oxygen in the blood stream. The introduction of nicotine, one of the primary ingredients of tobacco, temporarily increases the smokers heart rate and increases her blood pressure by constricting blood vessels. This combination creates an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

But smoking also has an impact on brains pleasure centers. Withdrawal causes big changes in these centers. The changes are very similar to the changes observed in individuals suffering withdrawals from other drugs like cocaine, heroin, and alcohol. And the effect of the changes on the smoker are also very similar to those of other drugs.

These characteristics make quitting difficult, very difficult. The changes due to the lack of Nicotine, the main addictive substance in cigarettes, have some very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms that impact the smoker and the people around them. These symptoms include irritability, impatience, restlessness, increased appetite and weight gain, and difficulty in concentrating. These symptoms combine to create a powerful incentive to continue smoking. To quit smoking naturally we must recognize and deal with these symptoms.

Many studies show that a two-pronged approach is needed to help a person break the cigarette habit. Generally, any treatment involving either drugs or an herbal treatment must be accompanied by an adjustment of the smokers behavioral patterns. These adjustments include developing skill in overcoming high-risk situations. When presented as a combined action, the success rates are very high. When only one is used, resulting success rates are much lower. Many natural cures are on the market today and carefully cosider all options and find a way to quit smoking naturally that suits you and your lifestyle.
