Glazed Brie: Is It an Appetizer or a Dessert

Glazed Brie, sometimes considered a classic, is so good served either as a Brie cheese appetizer or use it as a light dessert. Whichever way you choose to use this wonderful Brie recipe, you can't go wrong. Your friends and guests will beg you for more!

What you'll need:
- 2/3 cup walnuts (finely chopped)
- 1/4 cup coffee-flavored liqueur or coffee-flavored syrup
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 round Brie cheese (12 oz.)
- mix of assorted crackers
- Pear slices or apple slices

First things first: preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Next, spread the walnuts onto the bottom of an ungreased pie plate and bake them for 10 to 12 minutes or until toasted. You'll need to stir the walnuts occasionally.

Remove the toasted walnuts from the oven and stir in your coffee-flavored liqueur or syrup, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Set aside.

Then, reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees F. Remove the top of the rind of Brie cheese and throw it away. Place the Brie cheese into an ungreased shallow baking dish and top with the walnut mixture.

Last, bake the Brie uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes or until the Brie cheese is soft and thoroughly heated. Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your crackers, pear and apple slices.

This is a great recipe for summer time parties to be able to take advantage of fruit in season. But it's also great in the winter. The warm creamy texture of the Brie is sure to warm the heart and toes! Enjoy.

Variation: Use pecans instead of walnuts. And use Kahlua or Amaretto instead of other coffee liqueur or syrup.
